Abia State Governor Alex Otti commissioned the Nchedo Sexual Assault Referral Centre at the Aba General Hospital. The new facility provides comprehensive support for survivors of gender-based violence.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti officially commissioned the Nchedo Sexual Assault Referral Centre on Wednesday February 18 2026. The facility became the first Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Abia State. He performed the ceremony at the Aba General Hospital.
The Nchedo Sexual Assault Referral Centre offers medical treatment, psychosocial counselling and legal assistance to survivors of sexual assault and gender-based violence. Officials designed the facility to provide one-stop care for victims.
The Abia State Government established the centre in collaboration with the European Union funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme II. This partnership strengthened the state’s response mechanisms against gender-based violence.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti commissioned the facility alongside his wife Priscilla Otti. The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim also witnessed the event.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending gender-based violence. He disclosed plans to establish two additional centres across the state.
