Guinea-Bissau defeated Nigeria 3-0 in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group L match at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau on Tuesday. The hosts controlled key moments and converted their chances while the Super Eagles struggled to respond.
Franculino Djú opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Renato Nhaga played him into the box and Djú fired a left-footed shot past Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. The goal put Guinea-Bissau ahead and shifted the momentum firmly in their favour.
Nigeria created a clear opportunity before half-time. Alex Iwobi set up Ademola Lookman but Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Embadjé produced a strong save to preserve the lead. The teams went into the break with the score at 1-0.
After the interval Guinea-Bissau continued to press. Mama Baldé doubled the advantage in the 66th minute. He received the ball from Mamadi Camará on the left and drove a low shot into the net.
Nigeria coach Éric Chelle introduced substitutes in an effort to change the course of the match. George Ilenikhena and Raphael Onyedika replaced Akor Adams and Wilfred Ndidi in the 75th minute. Ilenikhena later tested Embadjé in the 85th minute but the goalkeeper again denied the visitors.
Guinea-Bissau completed the victory in stoppage time. Álvaro Djaló scored the third goal after receiving a through ball from Tamble Monteiro and finishing with his right foot.
The win left Guinea-Bissau alone at the top of Group L with six points from two matches. Nigeria sat second on three points. The result marked a significant early setback for the Super Eagles in the qualifying campaign.
