The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission declared Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina wanted on Wednesday over an alleged case of receiving stolen properties.
Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, signed the public notice that announced the move. The notice identified Maina as a 61-year-old indigene of Biu in Borno State and published his photograph.
The commission stated in the notice: “The public is hereby notified that ABDULRASHEED ABDULLAHI MAINA, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of Receiving Stolen Properties.”
It urged anyone with useful information about his whereabouts to contact any of its offices in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kaduna, Ilorin, Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi or Gombe. The agency also provided the telephone number 08093322644 and the email address info@efcc.gov.ng. Alternatively, the public could report to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
Maina previously served as chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team. In 2019, the EFCC arraigned him on a 12-count charge of money laundering involving more than N2 billion. A Federal High Court in Abuja later convicted him in November 2021 and sentenced him to eight years in prison. The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in May 2023.
Authorities released him from custody in February 2025 after he qualified for statutory remission. Meanwhile, he continues to face a separate nine-count charge before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Asokoro, Abuja, over the alleged receipt of about N738.6 million in stolen funds.
The EFCC did not release further details about the nature or value of the alleged stolen properties in the latest notice. The commission simply repeated its appeal for public cooperation to help locate Maina.
