Students Among Five Injured in Gun Attack Near Turkish School

A gunman opened fire outside a high school in western Turkey on Tuesday and injured five people, including students. The incident took place around 8 a.m. local time near Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Turgutlu district of Manisa province.

Local media reported that one of the wounded was in serious condition. Police and medical teams rushed to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire. Ambulances transported the injured to Turgutlu State Hospital.

The Manisa governor’s office confirmed the report of gunfire near the school. Officials said security forces were searching for the suspect, who fled after the attack. Security around the school was tightened immediately.

Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz announced that Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci and Education Minister Yusuf Tekin would travel to Manisa to inspect the situation. The National Education Ministry suspended classes at the school for the day.

The motive for the shooting remained unclear. Video footage circulating online showed a male figure carrying a rifle near the school before running away. Later reports indicated that security forces detained a suspect believed to be involved.

The attack marked another incident involving gunfire near a Turkish school this year. In April, two separate shootings at schools in other provinces left multiple people dead and injured. Those events prompted new security measures for the current academic year, including tighter controls on firearms.

Officials continued their investigation into the latest attack and said further details would be shared as the probe advanced.
