Lionel Messi scored his 930th career goal during Inter Miami’s 2-2 draw against San Diego FC in Major League Soccer on Sunday night. The Argentine star found the net with a free-kick at Chase Stadium in Miami.
San Diego FC opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Anders Dreyer received a through ball from Jeppe Tverskov and chipped the ball over Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair. The visitors then held the advantage briefly.
Messi restored parity 12 minutes later. He was fouled just outside the penalty area. Afterwards, he stepped up and curled a left-footed free-kick around the wall. The ball struck the post before crossing the line beyond goalkeeper CJ dos Santos.
The goal marked Messi’s 20th in the 2026 MLS season. It also became his 75th career free-kick goal and his 101st for Inter Miami. Four days earlier, he had scored his 100th goal for the club in a Campeones Cup win over Cruz Azul.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the milestone on X. He stated, “Lionel Messi has now reached 930 career goals by scoring his 75th free kick goal. 101 goals wearing an Inter Miami shirt.”
Inter Miami took the lead in the 74th minute. Luis Suarez found the net to make the score 2-1. The hosts appeared set to claim the three points at that stage.
San Diego responded quickly. Anders Dreyer scored his second goal of the night in the 82nd minute. His late strike restored parity and earned the visitors a point.
The result extended Inter Miami’s winless run in MLS to four matches. The club last won a league game on 29 August against Montreal. Inter Miami finished the match with 46 points from 26 games, recording 12 wins, four defeats and 10 draws.
