Senator Jibrin Barau, the Deputy President of the Senate, urged aspirants who lost the All Progressives Congress primary elections to accept the results and support the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.
He made the call on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Kano North Senatorial District Campaign Council. His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, confirmed the details in a statement issued in Abuja.
Barau stressed that the party could not afford internal divisions after the primaries. He noted that competition for tickets formed a normal part of democracy. He then urged those who won the tickets to work closely with those who did not secure them.
“The primaries are over. All members remain part of the same political family, APC. It is normal for politicians to compete for party tickets in a democracy. I urge those who emerged victorious to work with those who contested but did not secure the tickets,” Barau said.
He added, “You can see that many of those who contested the primaries but did not secure the tickets are here today. They understand that the party belongs to all of us, and that the victory of the party is ultimately their own victory.”
Barau further charged the campaign council to mobilise voters across the 13 local government areas of the district. He declared “APC SAK” as the campaign slogan and called for unity ahead of the polls.
The council, chaired by Engr. Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, the Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority and former Secretary to the Kano State Government, received clear instructions. Barau described the body as an all-inclusive structure that involved stakeholders at ward, local government and senatorial levels.
He tasked members with securing victories for President Bola Tinubu, himself as the senator for Kano North, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, House of Representatives candidates and State House of Assembly aspirants.
In response, Bichi pledged full mobilisation from the presidential level down to the state assembly. He described Barau as a strong and sellable candidate whose interventions left visible footprints across Kano State.
The inauguration drew APC leaders, campaign council members and supporters from across Kano North. As a result, the focus moved from primary contests to collective efforts for party success in the general elections.
