A Russian strike on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Kamianske has killed four people and wounded five others, Ukrainian regional authorities said on Saturday, as deadly attacks continued despite fresh diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing hostilities.
The attack occurred in Dnipropetrovsk region during a period of heightened international efforts to secure a temporary halt to Russian and Ukrainian airstrikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had proposed an air truce during the visit of US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv.
Regional military authorities said the strike hit Kamianske in the early hours of Saturday. The attack caused multiple casualties, with three wounded people taken to hospital. One of those injured, a 30-year-old woman, was reported to be in intensive care.
The latest attack has added to concerns over the prospects for a temporary reduction in aerial attacks as Washington intensifies diplomatic efforts to revive negotiations aimed at ending the war.
Zelenskyy had said Ukraine would refrain from launching attacks during the US envoys’ diplomatic mission and called on Moscow to do the same. The proposal came as Russian and Ukrainian forces continued exchanging long-range missile and drone strikes across each other’s territory.
The violence has continued even as both sides face renewed international pressure to pursue a negotiated settlement. US President Donald Trump said his envoys were travelling with a proposal to end the war, adding that there could be “a good chance” of achieving progress.
Russia’s latest attack also follows a major escalation in Kyiv, where a Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service on Friday. Zelenskyy said the drone was aimed directly at the office of the SBU chief and ordered what he described as an “appropriate, tangible response.”
The Kamianske casualties underline the difficulty of translating diplomatic initiatives into an immediate reduction in violence. While negotiations remain active, missiles and drones continue to strike Ukrainian cities, leaving civilians exposed to the consequences of the conflict.
For residents of Kamianske, Saturday’s attack brought another deadly reminder that the war remains active despite renewed international attempts to push Russia and Ukraine toward a pause in hostilities.
