Arsenal Target Vinicius Junior Agrees Six-Year Deal with Real Madrid

Real Madrid and Brazil international Vinicius Junior reached agreement on a new six-year contract on Thursday. The deal keeps the 26-year-old at the club until 30 June 2032.

Vinicius Junior had entered the final year of his previous contract. Arsenal closely monitored the situation in recent weeks as manager Mikel Arteta identified the winger as a leading target to strengthen the attack.

Talks between Real Madrid and the player’s representatives stretched over 18 months and reached an impasse. The club then presented a fresh proposal on Wednesday. Vinicius Junior accepted the improved terms shortly afterwards.

Real Madrid announced the extension in an official statement. The club said: “Vinicius Jr has become one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history.”

Meanwhile, Vinicius Junior shared his reaction on Instagram. He wrote: “Eight years at the Bernabeu is too short… six more years and forever.”

Vinicius Junior joined Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018 at the age of 18. He later signed a previous extension three years ago. Across eight seasons he made 375 appearances and scored 128 goals while helping the team collect 14 major trophies, including two Champions League titles.

He returned to training on Monday after representing Brazil at the World Cup. The new contract therefore settles his immediate future at the club he has previously described as the team of his dreams.

The agreement removes any chance of a summer transfer and ends months of uncertainty surrounding one of Real Madrid’s key attackers.
