Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke directed all categories of public servants in the state to stay off duty on Tuesday, 28 July 2026. The move allowed them to collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards.
Spokesperson Olawale Rasheed issued the statement on Monday. He explained that the directive covered local government staff and workers in tertiary institutions as well. Head of Service Elder Ayanleye Aina had already issued a circular across the public service to that effect.
Governor Adeleke stated that the work-free day would enable public servants to perform their civic obligation. The August 15 gubernatorial election and future polls in the state made the step necessary. Consequently, workers gained the time needed to visit collection points without delay.
The circular further advised those on essential duties to make necessary arrangements among themselves. Medical workers and security staff received this guidance so that the lives of citizens would face no negative consequences. Meanwhile, other public servants received the full day off.
Governor Adeleke also urged public servants and informal workers to collect their voters cards as urgently as possible. He reminded the public that next month’s election remained critical to the state and its future.
In his own words, he said, “I encourage all registered voters to reach all the collection points without delay. Your vote is your power. Your voters card is your licence to the ballot paper and by extension to the ballot box.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission had already begun PVC distribution at registration area levels across Osun.
Collection continued through the designated period so that eligible voters could obtain their cards before the poll. Governor Adeleke therefore called on every registered voter to act without further delay.
