Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, a member of Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, completed a 144-hour Bible reading marathon on June 29. She read the Holy Bible aloud continuously for six days at the Novotel Hotel in Rivers State.
Organizers confirmed that the attempt followed Guinness World Records guidelines, which included witnesses, professional audio equipment, and continuous monitoring.
The record attempt, tagged “144 Hours in the Word,” started on June 22. Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack read without long interruptions and took only short breaks for basic needs.
She surpassed the 100-hour milestone days earlier and pushed through to the end. Supporters, including family, church members, and well-wishers, gathered at the venue to encourage her.
Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack described the challenge as a faith-driven initiative. She aimed to promote deeper engagement with the Scriptures among Christians. Her senior pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, endorsed the project. He stated that it served as more than a record bid but a spiritual effort to exalt God’s Word and inspire believers.
Organizers maintained strict adherence to rules throughout the six days. Witnesses observed the reading sessions, and audio recordings captured every verse. Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack continued with remarkable endurance, moving from one book of the Bible to another without pause for extended periods.
Guinness World Records officials will now review the evidence for official verification. If approved, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack will become the first official holder of the longest individual Bible reading marathon record. The completion marked a significant moment for Nigerian participation in global endurance challenges rooted in faith.
