Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated Senegal 2-1 in an international friendly match played on Friday at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State. The victory gave the hosts a strong start in their double-header series as they prepare for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Falcons took control from the opening minutes. They pressed high and created several chances. Nigeria broke the deadlock midway through the first half when a forward converted a well-worked move. The goal came after sustained pressure on Senegal’s defense.
Senegal responded with quick counters but struggled to maintain possession. Nigeria’s midfield dictated play and limited the visitors’ attacking options.
Nigeria extended the lead shortly after halftime. The second goal resulted from another coordinated attack that exposed gaps in Senegal’s backline. Coach Justine Madugu’s side looked comfortable and moved the ball with purpose.
Senegal pulled one goal back later in the match. The Lionesses showed resilience and capitalized on a defensive lapse. Their forward finished neatly to reduce the deficit. However the visitors could not find an equalizer despite late pushes.
Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade expressed satisfaction with the performance. “We worked hard as a team and got the result we wanted,” she said. “This match helps us build confidence ahead of bigger games.”
Senegal’s coach noted his team’s improvement in the second half. “We fought until the end but made mistakes at key moments,” he stated. “We will use this experience for the next match.”
The win boosts Nigeria’s preparation. The two teams will meet again on Monday in the second friendly. The Super Falcons showed good organization and attacking quality in front of a vocal home crowd.
