Tottenham Hotspur secured their Premier League status on the final day of the 2025-26 season. West Ham United dropped to the Championship after 14 years in the top flight. The dramatic results unfolded on Sunday as both London clubs fought for survival.
Tottenham Hotspur hosted Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The home side needed at least a point to guarantee safety, given their superior goal difference. João Palhinha scored the only goal in the 43rd minute. This strike gave Tottenham a 1-0 victory and lifted them to safety on 39 points with a -9 goal difference.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed relief after the match. “The players showed character today,” De Zerbi said. “We fought until the end.”
Meanwhile West Ham United faced Leeds United at the London Stadium. The Hammers won 3-0 with goals from Taty Castellanos, Jarrod Bowen, and Callum Wilson. However, the result proved insufficient. West Ham finished 18th on 36 points with a -19 goal difference.
West Ham United’s relegation ended their 14-year stay in the Premier League. The club had maintained top-flight status since their promotion in 2012. Manager David Moyes reflected on the campaign. “We gave everything this season, but it was not enough,” Moyes stated. “The players worked hard, yet the results did not go our way.”
Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers had already suffered relegation in previous weeks. West Ham joined them in the drop.
Tottenham Hotspur survived despite a difficult season. The club endured a poor run of form earlier but improved under De Zerbi. Fans celebrated at full time with flares and pitch invasions. The victory over Everton marked a key moment in their recovery.
Both teams entered the final day separated by points and goal difference. Tottenham held the advantage throughout the tense afternoon. West Ham needed a significant swing that never materialized.
The results confirmed the Premier League table. Tottenham stayed in the top flight while West Ham prepared for life in the Championship next season.
