Nigeria Drawn Against Madagascar Tanzania Guinea Bissau in 2027 AFCON Qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football conducted the draw for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Tuesday in Cairo. Nigeria landed in Group L alongside Madagascar, Tanzania and Guinea Bissau.

Officials held the event in Egypt on Tuesday. Nigeria entered as one of the top seeded teams. The Super Eagles joined three other nations in Group L. Tanzania secured automatic qualification as a co host for the 2027 tournament alongside Kenya and Uganda. As a result only one additional spot from the group remains open for the other three teams.

The Super Eagles finished third at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. Coach Augustine Eguavoen and his players now prepare for the new qualifying series. Nigeria faced these opponents in past CAF competitions. The team recorded mixed results against them but maintained an overall strong record in recent years.

Madagascar showed improvement in recent qualifiers and competitions. Tanzania brought physicality and home advantage though their status as hosts limited their qualification battle. Guinea Bissau offered resilience and tactical discipline in previous encounters.

Teams will compete in home and away matches. The top team from Group L will advance to the 2027 finals in East Africa. Nigeria must secure consistent points to top the group. Matches will run through 2027.

The draw added focus to Nigeria football federation preparations. Fans and analysts watched the ceremony closely as the Super Eagles began their road to defend continental honour.
