Rotimi Amaechi expressed strong confidence in securing the African Democratic Congress presidential ticket. The former Rivers State governor and ex-minister of transportation submitted his nomination forms and positioned himself as the strongest contender against Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms at the ADC national secretariat in Abuja on May 15, 2026. Both politicians paid the required N90 million fee. The submissions confirmed their bids for the 2027 presidential election under the opposition party.
Rotimi Amaechi argued that his record made him the most viable candidate. He pointed to his achievements as governor of Rivers State and as minister of transportation. Amaechi said he delivered infrastructure projects across the country. He told supporters that experience and the ability to deliver votes would decide the ticket.
The former minister declared that only a capable candidate could defeat President Bola Tinubu. Amaechi stated he knew Tinubu’s strengths and weaknesses well. He added that he felt ready to turn around the country’s fortunes if given the ADC flag.
Political observers noted the emerging contest between Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi. Party officials planned primaries for late May 2026. Amaechi urged delegates to choose based on merit and capacity rather than other factors.
He maintained that he possessed the right combination of youth, experience, and practical achievements to lead the opposition effectively.
