Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority Sets Drone Portal Launch at Major African Conference

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority announced plans to launch its dedicated Drone and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems portal. Officials revealed the initiative at the upcoming 6th Africa International Drone Technology Conference and Exhibition, known as DroneTecX 2026.

Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Chris Najomo, disclosed the development during preparations for the event. He stated that the portal would streamline drone operations across Nigeria. “This platform marks a significant step in modernizing our regulatory framework for unmanned aircraft,” Najomo explained.

The new online system will allow operators to register drones, obtain necessary permits, and comply with safety standards more efficiently. Authority officials noted that the portal addresses the rapid increase in drone usage for commercial, agricultural, and security purposes in the country.

Transitioning from manual processes to a digital solution, the platform will enhance transparency and reduce processing times for approvals. Najomo added that the launch at DroneTecX 2026 would demonstrate Nigeria’s commitment to adopting advanced aviation technologies.

DroneTecX 2026 will bring together industry leaders, regulators, and innovators from across Africa. The event provides a platform for discussions on drone applications in various sectors, including disaster management, infrastructure monitoring, and logistics.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority selected the conference for the portal launch to align with broader continental efforts to harmonize drone regulations. Experts expect the announcement to attract interest from technology firms and potential partners.

Officials emphasized that the portal would strengthen safety oversight while supporting economic opportunities in the drone industry. By centralizing data and processes, the system aims to prevent unauthorized operations and promote responsible use of remotely piloted aircraft.

The authority continues to work with stakeholders to finalize portal features ahead of the official debut. Industry observers view this move as a proactive response to the evolving drone landscape in Nigeria and Africa.
