APC governors removed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma as chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) on Thursday. About 20 progressive governors took the decision during an extraordinary meeting in Abuja.
The meeting occurred shortly after the submission of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential nomination form. Governors from states such as Ogun, Bayelsa, and Enugu attended the session alongside 17 others.
The governors acted to realign leadership within the forum ahead of future political activities. They met behind closed doors and reached a consensus on the change. Reports did not immediately name Uzodinma’s successor or provide official reasons for the removal.
Uzodinma had served as PGF chairman for several years. He also chaired key APC committees in the past, including an earlier role in the party’s 2026 National Convention planning before a reassignment.
APC sources described the development as part of routine internal adjustments. The party continued to emphasize unity among its governors. No immediate statement came from Uzodinma or the PGF secretariat on the outcome of the meeting.
Political observers noted the timing as significant. The removal followed recent party activities tied to preparations for the 2027 general elections. APC governors form a critical bloc in the ruling party’s structure.
The Progressive Governors Forum coordinates policy and strategy among APC state governors. The group often issues communiqués after meetings on national issues. This leadership change added a new dynamic to the forum as the political season advanced.
