“We Still Don’t Know Who’s Behind Plateau Killings” — Gov Mutfwang Speaks

Gunmen struck Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area on March 29 2026. The attackers opened fire around 7 30 p m on law-abiding citizens who carried out normal evening activities. The assault claimed 28 lives and left several others injured.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang visited the scene and the injured at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. He confirmed the casualty figure in a state broadcast. The governor described the incident as tragic and senseless. He added that the victims included innocent residents who never expected violence in their neighbourhood.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang travelled to Abuja on April 1 and met President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He briefed the president on the security situation in Plateau State. After the closed-door discussion Mutfwang spoke to journalists at the State House.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang stated that security agencies had not identified the attackers. He declared “Unfortunately we’ve not been able to lay hands on the attackers yet to know their identities and their motive.” 

He explained that officials viewed the killings as an act of criminality. The governor noted that one suspect who issued prior threats against peace in the state had already been arrested.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang assured residents that the government and security forces would pursue the perpetrators. He imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North to allow calm investigations and prevent reprisal attacks.

The governor added that Plateau State would not bow to terror and would emerge stronger through unity. Security agencies continued intelligence operations across the area as investigations progressed.
