On March 25, 2026, leaders and delegates from the North Central zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The event took place in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume led the delegation of stakeholders, including governors, ministers, and party chieftains. Akume moved the motion to adopt Tinubu as the sole candidate. Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State seconded the motion.
Delegates gave a thunderous voice vote in support. No dissenting voice emerged during the affirmation. This action made the North Central the first geopolitical zone to formally consolidate behind Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Governor Abdullahi Sule highlighted the benefits of Tinubu’s reforms. Sule stated that some states carried out projects without borrowing funds due to these changes.
He added, “As a result of these reforms, some of us are carrying out projects without borrowing a penny; for that reason, I second the motion to adopt President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our sole candidate for 2027.”
The endorsement occurred amid preparations for the 2027 elections. Akume rallied stakeholders to focus on massive voter mobilization in the zone. The gathering included representatives from various states in the North Central region.
This development signaled strong regional backing for Tinubu within the APC. Earlier endorsements from other groups existed, but the North Central’s formal adoption stood out for its high-level participation and unanimity.
The APC continued to build momentum toward the national convention and the general election. Party leaders emphasized unity and strategic planning for future polls.
