Wike Dismisses Split Talks, Calls for Unity in PDP

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike dismissed reports of a split in the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday. He spoke to journalists in Abuja after he inspected ongoing infrastructure projects in the capital. Wike insisted the party stayed united despite recent tensions.

“We have only one PDP, no faction,” he said. He added, “I don’t know which camp you are talking about. There is only one PDP. Some individuals may not be happy, yes, but there is no faction.”

Wike noted that members held some grievances. However, he stated that reconciliation talks remained active. “That there is a convention does not mean there will be no reconciliation. Everything has its own time,” he said. He stressed that the party would hold its national convention as planned on March 29 and 30, 2026.

Meanwhile the PDP moved forward with arrangements for the Abuja event. Wike urged all members to focus on the gathering. He maintained that internal differences did not weaken the party structure.

The party faced a leadership dispute since November 2025. PDP governors earlier supported a convention in Ibadan that produced Kabiru Turaki as national chairman. Later, a group loyal to Wike formed a caretaker committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman as acting national chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as acting national secretary.

Legal battles followed. On March 9, the Court of Appeal ruled the Ibadan convention invalid. The court cited violations of the Electoral Act, the Constitution, and the party’s own rules. Wike used the moment to call for calm and collective focus ahead of the national convention.
