Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen said he would have succeeded in life even without football, as he reflected on his difficult upbringing and personal drive. He explained that his early struggles in Lagos shaped his mindset and forced him to develop resilience at a young age.
Osimhen recalled how he took on menial jobs to survive, including selling water on the streets. He stated, “Even without football, I would have made it,” stressing that his determination extended beyond sports. According to him, hardship taught him discipline and the importance of persistence.
However Osimhen acknowledged that football provided a platform to express his talent and change his life. He rose to prominence after winning the Golden Boot at the FIFA U 17 World Cup in 2015. Subsequently, he secured moves to European clubs, where he continued to grow professional.
The striker noted that his journey was not smooth, as he faced setbacks, including injuries and adaptation challenges. Nevertheless, he said he remained focused and worked hard to overcome obstacles. He added that his belief in himself played a key role in his success.
Furthermore, Osimhen urged young people to remain committed to their goals regardless of circumstances. He emphasized that success required effort, consistency and self belief. “You must keep pushing, no matter where you come from,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of having alternatives and developing skills beyond football. According to him, life offered many opportunities for those willing to work.
Meanwhile Osimhen stated that he remained focused on achieving more in his career. He said he aimed to continue improving and contributing to his team’s success.
