Ex-FCT Senator Aduda Holds Talks With APC Leaders Following PDP Exit

Former Federal Capital Territory Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party on March 17 2026. He submitted a formal letter to the PDP chairman of Karu Ward in Abuja. The resignation took immediate effect.

In the letter Aduda stated his reason clearly. He wrote “I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect due to the crisis in the party.” He added “I remain grateful for the opportunity the party gave me to serve in various elective positions in our nation.”

Aduda visited the All Progressives Congress national secretariat in Abuja. He held a closed-door meeting with APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda. The former senator arrived with the chairman-elect of Kuje Area Council.

Close associates confirmed that a formal defection to the APC would follow in the coming days. Sources noted that the move aimed to position Aduda for a Senate contest in 2027.

Aduda represented the FCT in the ninth Senate under the PDP. He lost his re-election bid in 2023 to Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party. Since then he worked closely with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in various capacities.

Meanwhile the resignation delivered a major setback to the PDP in the FCT. Aduda served as a key figure in the territory for over a decade. The development signals fresh realignment in the capital’s politics as the APC strengthens its hold ahead of future elections.
