Manchester City Advance to FA Cup Quarter-Finals with 3-1 Win Over Newcastle

Manchester City progressed to the FA Cup quarter-finals after they defeated Newcastle United 3-1 in the fifth round at St James’ Park. The visitors overcame an early deficit through goals from Savinho and a brace from Omar Marmoush.

Newcastle started brightly and took the lead in the 18th minute. Midfielder Sandro Tonali played a through ball to Harvey Barnes, who ran onto it and curled a right-footed shot into the far corner past goalkeeper James Trafford. The hosts created earlier chances, including a dipping shot from Anthony Elanga that Trafford saved.

However, Manchester City responded before halftime. Winger Jeremy Doku beat Kieran Trippier and delivered a cross that bounced off Savinho’s leg and into the net in the 39th minute. This equalizer shifted momentum.

City seized control after the break. In the 47th minute, Matheus Nunes crossed low to Omar Marmoush, who fired into the roof of the net from close range. Marmoush scored again in the 65th minute when he latched onto another Nunes cross and struck a fierce shot past Aaron Ramsdale.

Meanwhile Newcastle struggled to respond despite substitutions like Joelinton and Dan Burn. City manager Pep Guardiola rested Erling Haaland ahead of their Champions League match against Real Madrid.

Newcastle goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale made key saves, including parrying Marmoush’s 60th-minute strike and denying Nico O’Reilly’s header. Lewis Hall cleared a follow-up from Tijjani Reijnders off the line.

City dominated with 10 changes to their lineup from a recent Premier League draw. The win marked their eighth straight FA Cup quarter-final appearance and extended their dominance over Newcastle this season.
