The Federal Government announced on Friday that motorists plying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will experience traffic diversions for two weeks starting March 10, 2026. The diversion became necessary to facilitate emergency repair works on the Kara Bridge.
The Federal Ministry of Works released the advisory through its official channels. Permanent Secretary Engr. Olufunso Adebiyi signed the statement on behalf of the ministry. The notice specified that repair crews will work on the bridge expansion joints during the stipulated period.
Motorists heading toward Lagos from the Ibadan axis will divert through the Sagamu Interchange. They will proceed through the Interdenominational Church of Africa, popularly known as ICA, and rejoin the main expressway at the OPIC end. Conversely, travelers moving from Lagos toward Ibadan will exit at OPIC and reconnect at Sagamu.
Adebiyi addressed public concerns regarding the inconvenience. He stated, “The Federal Ministry of Works regrets the inconvenience this may cause road users.” He added, “The ministry assures the public that the diversion will be properly managed to ensure minimal disruption.”
The ministry fixed the repair duration at two weeks. Officials indicated that work crews will operate continuously to meet the deadline. The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State supervised the planning phase of the project.
The ministry appealed to drivers to obey traffic officials stationed along the diversion points. Road safety agencies will deploy personnel to manage flow and prevent gridlock. The government warned that violators of diversion protocols risk prosecution.
