Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state, has officially registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He completed his registration at ward 8 in Ubima Local Government Area of Rivers state on Friday morning.
Amaechi confirmed the development in a statement. He said, “I have officially registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress.” He added, “This marks a new chapter in my political journey.”
Amaechi served as governor of Rivers state from 2007 to 2015. He later became minister of transportation under former president Muhammadu Buhari. His defection to the ADC signals his preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The former governor completed the registration process in his hometown. Ward 8 in Ubima LGA hosted the ceremony on Friday morning. Local party officials received him into the ADC fold.
Political analysts noted that Amaechi’s move could reshape the political landscape in Rivers state. His entry into the ADC may attract other politicians to the party. The development also positions him for potential electoral contests in 2027.
