The Independent National Electoral Commission presented certificates of return to Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, and other victorious candidates from the Federal Capital Territory area council elections. The presentation ceremony took place at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
Maikalangu secured his position as AMAC Chairman following the conclusion of the electoral process. The electoral commission formally recognized his victory through the issuance of the official certificate, which serves as legal proof of his election to the office.
In addition to Maikalangu, INEC presented certificates to other successful candidates who won various positions in the FCT area council polls. The commission completed the certification process for councilors and other elected officials across the six area councils in the territory.
The certificates confirm the legitimacy of the election results and authorize the recipients to assume their respective offices. Each recipient underwent verification before receiving the official documentation.
Maikalangu expressed gratitude for the recognition. He stated, “I thank the people of AMAC for their trust and confidence in my leadership. I promise to serve with dedication and integrity.” He added, “This certificate represents the will of the electorate, and I commit to fulfilling my campaign promises.”
An INEC official who presided over the ceremony emphasized the importance of the process. The official said, “The presentation of certificates of return marks the formal conclusion of the electoral process. These documents validate the mandate given by the voters.”
The newly certified officials prepare to assume their duties following the completion of the electoral formalities. The presentation of certificates represents the final step in the electoral timeline before the winners take office.
