FCT Council poll: Election underway in various voting centres across FCT

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are voting today, Saturday, in the area council elections across the six local government areas- AMAC, Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Bwari and Abaji.

The exercise, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will see voters elect chairmen and councillors in their respective councils.

The commission had earlier disclosed that over 1.5 million voters collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the polls, while more than two million voters are expected to participate.

Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, have deployed personnel across the territory. Movement has also been restricted for 12 hours to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.

Early Situation Reports Across Polling Units:

Bwari (Peyi Polling Unit, Subert International School): INEC officials arrived as early as 7:55am and began setting up election materials, with security personnel present.

AMAC – Lifecamp Primary School (RAC), 8:11am: Heavy security presence recorded at the Registration Area Centre. However, some presiding officers reportedly indicated they were awaiting security escorts to their respective polling units.

Garki Ward – PU 087, 8:40am: Accreditation and voting commenced at 8:40am, with three voters having cast their ballots at the time of reporting as officials awaited increased turnout.

Ward 1, City Centre (Area 2, Park and Garden) – PU 005, 8:58am: Accreditation and voting were ongoing, with security operatives actively monitoring the process.

Across the FCT, polling units opened with early deployment of materials and personnel, signalling the official commencement of the 2026 council elections.
