Governor Buni Approves N398m for Ramadan Feeding in Yobe State

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni approved over N398 million for the 2026 Ramadan feeding and Tafsir program. The approval came as part of the state government’s annual welfare initiative to support vulnerable residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

The governor announced the funding during a meeting with members of the Ramadan Feeding and Tafsir Committee at the Government House in Damaturu. Furthermore, he directed the committee to ensure equitable distribution of resources across all 17 local government areas in the state.

The allocated funds will cover the provision of food items for daily Iftar meals and the organization of Tafsir sessions throughout Ramadan. Additionally, the program targets internally displaced persons, orphans, widows, and other vulnerable groups who require assistance during the fasting period.

Committee members received instructions to identify deserving beneficiaries in both urban and rural communities. Consequently, the government aims to reach thousands of households across the state with this intervention.

Governor Buni stressed the importance of the program in promoting religious teachings and social welfare. He stated: “The Ramadan feeding program reflects our commitment to the welfare of the people and the teachings of Islam. We must ensure that no one goes hungry during this sacred period.”

He added: “The Tafsir sessions will provide spiritual guidance and strengthen the faith of our people. Therefore, we expect the committee to work diligently to achieve these objectives.”

The governor appointed religious leaders, government officials, and community representatives to serve on the committee. These members will oversee procurement, distribution, and monitoring of the program.

The committee chairman, who also serves as the state Commissioner for Religious Affairs, pledged to execute the mandate transparently. He assured the governor that the funds would reach the intended beneficiaries without delay.

This approval follows similar interventions in previous years. Last year, the state government allocated N350 million for the same purpose. As a result, the increased allocation for 2026 demonstrates the administration’s expanding commitment to social welfare.

Officials from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning confirmed that the funds have been released to the relevant ministries for immediate disbursement. Meanwhile, the committee has begun preparatory work for the program launch.

The Ramadan feeding program will commence with the beginning of the fasting period. Community leaders across the state have welcomed the initiative. They expressed gratitude to the governor for sustaining the welfare program despite economic challenges.

The Tafsir sessions will hold in central mosques and designated venues across the three senatorial districts. Religious scholars will conduct daily interpretations of the Quran throughout the holy month.
