Former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has said that his erstwhile principal – Tinubu – will make the worst president if he returns to power in 2027.
Baba-Ahmed made this remark on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Political Paradigm’.
He said he had not seen any improvement in the record of Tinubu since resigning as the President’s adviser, adding that on the contrary he had seen a deterioration of things.
“Our nation has been a lot more insecure now than I left. What I see at home and on the street when people speak, the level of desperation, poverty is most pronounced, especially in the Northern part of the country.
“I see a president who is amassing all the politicians around him with the hope that those politicians are going to deliver him in the second term.
“That is poor thinking. It’s not strategic and it’s not Tinubu that we used to hear about.
“I’m sorry to say that I think President Tinubu will make the worst president if he returns to power in 2027,” he said.
The Northern Elders Forum chieftain weighed in on the deterioration of Nasir El-Rufai and Nuhu Ribadu’s relationship, saying it reflected a deeper problem in Nigeria’s political culture.
Stressing that the breakdown in their relationship reveals one of the poisonous elements of Nigeria’s politics, he said, “I am extremely saddened by the development. I know both gentlemen and how deep their personal relationship was, and I see one of the poisonous elements of our politics.
“If you can actually poison a relationship with this nature this deeply, then we are in very serious trouble… it is very saddening to see this relationship just simply degenerate to a point that their personal relationship is now so poisoned that nobody thinks about the consequences… we are dealing with a situation of two friends threatening to take legal action against each other.”
