Opeyemi Bamidele, the Leader of the Senate, announced that the All Progressives Congress planned to mobilize at least 10 million votes from the South-west region for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He made this statement during the inauguration of the Ekiti APC 2026 Governorship Election Campaign Council in Ado Ekiti.
Additionally, Bamidele emphasized aggressive voter mobilization through the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise. He urged party members to encourage residents to register and collect Permanent Voter Cards.
Bamidele stated, “As a party of conviction and vision, we have already set a target ahead of the 2027 elections. We have designed a mobilisation plan to deliver at least 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the six states of the South-west alone.”
Furthermore, he noted that Ekiti had a population of about 3.8 million but only 987,647 registered voters in 2023. Bamidele called for an increase in voter registration by at least 50 percent before August 2026.
He added, “As we approach the 2027 elections, we must go house-to-house, street-to-street, and community-to-community to mobilise our brothers and sisters, our fathers and mothers, to enrol for the Continuous Voter Registration.”
Bamidele described the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti as a referendum on Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s performance. He predicted a walkover victory for the APC due to Oyebanji’s achievements.
Bamidele said, “The June 20 election will be a referendum to affirm and confirm the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in Ekiti State.”
Moreover he promised to lead the campaign with dedication for a landslide win. Bamidele urged unity, stating, “We must work together as one indivisible party and approach the election in the spirit of harmony, oneness and unity. This is the path to our victory.”
Biodun Oyebanji, the Governor of Ekiti, thanked Bamidele for his support. Oyebanji said his re-election campaign would focus on policies and development plans rather than personal attacks.
He also urged other parties’ candidates to comply with the Electoral Act and the Constitution for a peaceful process. The event highlighted APC’s early preparations for 2027, focusing on grassroots efforts in the South-west.
