2027 Race: Pro-Tinubu Igbo Group Says Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance Is No Threat

A coalition of pro-Tinubu Igbo groups dismissed talks of a possible alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Thursday. The group stated that the rumoured partnership posed no real challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the national coordinator of the NdIgbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI-ABAT), and Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr., the secretary general, signed the statement.

They addressed speculations about a joint presidential ticket under the African Democratic Congress or another platform. The forum noted recent meetings, including Peter Obi’s visit to Kano where Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso hosted him during Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

The group argued that the proposed alliance was neither formidable nor feasible. Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr. explained that internal dynamics within opposition ranks would hinder any coalition.

They pointed to the continued political relevance and ambitions of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The leaders added that Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State worked towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election.

The NdIgbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum expressed confidence in strong backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially in the South-East. The group credited Minister of Works David Umahi for strengthening political support in the region.

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr. revealed ongoing mobilisation efforts among Ndigbo across the country. They declared their target of 13 million Igbo votes for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

The forum maintained that emerging opposition alignments would not reshape the political landscape significantly. Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr. stated that they were confident President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would defeat both the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and a possible Atiku-Amaechi ticket.

The development came amid fluid political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections. The NdIgbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum continued its push to rally support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the South-East.
