2027 Election: Otti Reveals Condition for Not Seeking Re-election

Abia State Governor Alex Otti declared that he would not have sought re-election in 2027 if he had completed all the works he set out to do. He made the statement on Tuesday at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area. About 10,000 people joined a solidarity march there.

Mr Dannie Ubani, the Labour Party House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 elections, convened the event. Otti explained that his decision for a second term stemmed from unfinished tasks.

“If I had finished the work that I came to do, I wouldn’t be seeking a second term,” Otti stated. He added that his administration had not yet completed its mission, but significant work remained to transform the state.

Moreover, Otti acknowledged the role of opposition in democracy. However, he berated certain opposition figures for what he called “politics of witchcraft.” He dismissed threats from these groups as insignificant.

Otti noted that they did not constitute up to 5 percent of the state population. He insisted that constructive criticism must acknowledge his administration’s achievements and suggest improvements.

Furthermore, Otti commended the people for their continued support. He thanked Ubani for organising the rally. Ubani expressed unwavering backing for Otti’s re-election bid in 2027. The convener said the march aimed to showcase the governor’s performance. Otti assured the crowd that he remained committed to good governance for Abia residents.
