Newcastle United defeated Manchester United 2-1 in the English Premier League. The home side secured the win despite playing with 10 men for over an hour. A late goal sealed the shock result at St James’ Park on March 4 2026.
Jacob Ramsey, the Newcastle United midfielder, received a red card in first-half stoppage time. He earned a second yellow card for simulation. Referee Peter Bankes dismissed him after he went down in the box. The home side continued despite the setback.
However, Newcastle responded immediately. Anthony Gordon, the Newcastle forward, won and converted a penalty in the 45th minute and six seconds. The goal put the home side ahead. Manchester United hit back quickly. Casemiro, the Manchester United defender, headed home an equalizer just minutes later. The teams entered the break level at 1-1.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe urged his players to stay compact in the second half. Substitute William Osula, the Newcastle forward, came off the bench late in the game. In the 90th minute, Osula collected a pass, cut inside the defender and curled a superb shot into the net. The late winner gave Newcastle a 2-1 victory.
After the final whistle, Howe shared his thoughts. “An amazing night. It was a great performance all the way through. 11 v 11 or 11 v 10. I thought we deserved to win,” he said. He described Ramsey’s red card as “really harsh.” Howe also praised the goal scorer. “I’m delighted for him. He has won us the game.”
Meanwhile the victory ended Manchester United’s unbeaten streak. Manchester United manager Michael Carrick tasted defeat for the first time in his current role.
